Buffer mitigation requirements can also be met through the purchase of mitigation credits from the SHMB. Typically, buffer mitigation is included within the typical mitigation ratio for the use of credits. However, if additional buffer mitigation is required above the wetland and/or aquatic habitat mitigation requirements, the credit ratio can be increased to satisfy these additional requirements.
While individual cases may vary, the suggested replacement ratio for credits required to acres impacted is 0.2 to 1, (e.g. five acres of buffer impacted can be mitigated with one credit from the SHMB).
