Benefits to Surrounding Agricultural Lands

  • Construction of Phase 1 of the SHMB provides immediate flood relief

    • A single credit from the SHMB represents the creation and successful function of approximately 6,700 cubic yards of increased flood storage in the Snohomish River Basin

  • Breach of lower end of Hansen dike reduces flood stages on opposite riverbank (Tualco Valley)


  • Improved flood conveyance through constructed side channel complex


  • Increased flood storage capacity in created floodplain wetland area


  • Success of Phase 1 activities promotes construction of future Phase 2 which will provide:


    • Further breaches / elimination of the Hansen dike


    • Additional flood conveyance


    • Additional flood storage capacity
